Live Storytelling
Ten years ago, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The disease was terrifying, and the treatment brutal. Hopefully, it’s the hardest thing I’ll ever go through. Like I do with everything, I wrote my way through it. Once the worst was over, I got up and read my stories to people.
I was thrilled to participate in writing and editing two anthologies — Shivering in a Paper Gown and Agony and Absurdity: Adventures in Cancerland — benefitting BAYS, a fantastic action and support group for young women with breast cancer. Through that work, I was able to read at San Francisco’s Litquake twice — a huge honor.
For a long time, I didn’t share this side of my life on my professional site, but I love sharing stories. And this is mine. So here goes.
Warning: These videos contain LOTS of 4-letter words. Because, you know… Fuck cancer.
